There is a job I really want at Company X. (I am not going to put the company's name here, lest the hiring manager see my writing and think I am pathetic.) I don't have much (any) formal experience directly related to the job. However, I think, based on tasks I've had to do in past jobs, that I'd be great in this position. I've considered the idea of offering to work for them for free for a week to see if they'd like me, and to see if I'd like the job. Apparently this phenomenon is called "prelancing."
Would I be opening myself up for exploitation if I did this? Would they totally reject my offer?
